Surfshark Unveils Everlink: Patented Tech for Uninterrupted VPN Connectivity

Surfshark has announced the launch of Surfshark Everlink, a groundbreaking, patented technology designed to enhance VPN connection stability and user privacy. The innovation, protected under patents US11190491B1 and US20240080302A1, introduces a “self-healing” mechanism that ensures continuous VPN connectivity by instantly recovering dropped connections without user intervention.

Unlike traditional VPN infrastructures, Everlink operates as an additional, invisible layer that keeps users connected even if the main VPN tunnel fails. This helps avoid the common risk of IP address leaks during outages, a crucial feature for privacy-focused users such as journalists, activists, and whistleblowers.

“Connection stability is one of the most vital metrics for a VPN user. Everlink helps ensure users stay secure without the interruption of disconnections,” said Donatas Budvytis, Surfshark’s CTO. He compared Everlink to the industry-standard Kill Switch, noting that while Kill Switches cut off traffic entirely when a VPN fails, Everlink instead restores the connection, providing both safety and seamless performance.

Everlink is now enabled by default on all Surfshark platforms using the WireGuard protocol—including iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux.

This launch follows Surfshark’s recent release of a free, privacy-focused DNS service, further underlining the company’s commitment to safer, more resilient internet access.
